Artefactus Cultural Project opens its theater season with “If this is a tragedy, I am a bicycle” a play by writer Legna Rodríguez Iglesias, winner of the Casa de las Américas Theater Award in 2016. The piece, directed by Alberto Menéndez, will be presented on February 21, 22, and 28, and March 1, 2025 at the Artefactus Cultural Center.
The play explores the encounter between two women in a medical consultation and the bond they build from an incurable disease. Beyond the drama implicit in the story, the staging focuses on the symbolic and the sensorial, inviting the spectator to question the traditional structures of the theatrical narrative. “Why not start living instead of dying when we are diagnosed with an incurable disease?” reflects director and adapter Alberto Menéndez, who takes on the challenge of bringing to the stage a text that challenges the conventional and delves into the complexity of the unsaid.
